Number: Log 12
Date: 2/11/86
Answer: Near Sydney, Australia (149 E, 30 S)

This is a four-variable, four-equation math problem. Solving for a, b, c, and d yields:

a=29, b=5, c=323, and d=6

Following the instructions in the log entry, players computed the visitation location.

longitude east = (c-ad) = 323-29*6 = 149 E

latitude south = (bd) = 30 S

This clue location provides a major breakthrough for teams, who finally get Trelix’s map. By using this map they are now able to obtain 5 of the 16 segments of the code. Below are subsets of the map showing the coordinates for the visions. As the players learned previously, the code is obtained by taking the last digit of each coordinate.

At this point, the solution to log 14 is now straightforward. Players had isolated a location at 30º E near the equator. The alien map only has four coordinates at 30º E, and the only coordinate on the map near the equator is at 5º south, Burundi.
